Greetings. I am honoured to present the first in a series of articles on salmonids,
their habitats, and the suitability of various weapons against them.
As they have continued to encroach upon our territory (which is to be expected since we've been
driving them out of their own) civilians are now at risk of direct attack. As such, this
advice is for the general public, not just employees of Grizzco. Starting with the basics, let's talk Lesser Salmonids.
Despite their collective title, you must not let your guard down.
Any attempts to take out the usual shore-loving suspects such as Big Shots,
Stingers and Fly Fish become increasingly risky the more lesser salmonid gather there.
The trails they leave behind will also reduce mobility, disrupting plans of escape
from bosses or other groups. Underestimating them as you focus exclusively on bosses could be your downfall.
Smallfry especially are very deceiving. Their diminutive stature allows them to sneak up on you unnoticed. Attempting to fight them with charger-type weapons such as the E-liter is frustrating at best and futile at worst. In contrast, weapons with a speedy rate of fire such as the aerospray can handle them well, as can rollers. If you have a suitable weapon, take note of which allies may need protection from smallfries - especially if that ally is at the shoreline.
Chum and cohock frying pans have pretty nasty knockback. While in some situations this could help you escape, in many it can cause drowning, hence why they are especially dangerous near the shoreline. Expect to see even further casualties if they ever invade Mahi-Mahi resort! The knockback also causes problems inland if you get slapped backwards into more salmonid, steel eel showers, flipper-flopper rings and who knows what else.
That's a lot to worry about, but there is a weapon which excels at eliminating hordes of lesser salmonid: the Dynamo Roller. Able to steamroll through cohocks with ease at the drawback of slow fling rate, it is best used alongside allies who can deal with bosses. It’s an incredible asset to any team when mudmouths start spewing swarms (ew) or during the infamous Glowfly Rush.
This concludes my PSA for the week - stay safe out there folks.
